No competing services
We don’t sell transit or colocation, so we never compete with our members for their customers.
+ABOUT IX.NET
Neutral exchanges, run by the same team since 2006. Keeping regional traffic in the region—and bringing more of the internet within reach.
FROM KANSAS CITY, OUTWARD
KCIX opened in Kansas City in 2006. Local networks started it to keep regional traffic in the region, instead of sending it to Chicago or Dallas and back. Members and supporters have kept it free to join ever since.
The same team went on to open STLIX, HOUIX, SpringIX, DesMoinesIX and SIOUIX, all linked back to Kansas City. KCIX also opened the first exchange in Kansas at Netrality KC2 in Shawnee.
Today, IX.NET brings it together: six exchanges we operate, five we extend to Kansas City, and the same way of working at each.
01OUR PRINCIPLES
IX.NET doesn’t take sides between the networks that use it.
We don’t sell transit or colocation, so we never compete with our members for their customers.
Every member gets the same ports, route servers and policies. No member pays for better treatment.
Connect wherever it suits your network. We don’t steer members toward a data center or carrier.
Prices are the same for everyone and are published or available on request.
02HOW WE OPERATE
Supporters contribute hardware, services and labor, keeping IX.NET exchange port fees at zero. Members pay the facility for the cross-connect.
Each extension has its own transport to the remote exchange, covered by its port fee. MICE and IX-Denver ports cost the same as connecting directly.
Route servers let new members reach most of the exchange with one BGP session. Bilateral peering is always available.
Participant lists, peering LANs and traffic statistics are published on each exchange’s website and in PeeringDB.
03PEERING & PORT POLICIES
Simple shared rules keep the exchange useful and reliable for every member.
